POMERANIAN ON BOARD…OF THE PLANE
Sure you love spending the holidays with your dog too. One of the advantages of having a Pomeranian dog is that because of their small size, we can carry them with us to almost anywhere. Since many of you will certainly travel by plane, I have written this post in which I have briefly analyzed the conditions imposed by 6 major airlines operating in Spain to carry our Pomeranians on board and what requirements must have the carrier transport bag to carry it on the plane.

is no room for them under the seat in front of you. |
This summer Colette and I will fly with IBERIA and I always buy my tickets on its website www.iberia.com. What I do is having the web page with all the data ready to purchase but without confirming the purchase, I write down the flight number and I call immediately to the Service Center to ask if there are still places for pets for that flight number, since airlines impose a limit number of pets allowed on board depending on the type of aircraft and the route.
If there is an available place for Colette, I buy the ticket right in that moment and I give the confirmation code of the purchase to the person I am already talking with on the phone in order to book the pet service. In that way, I make sure that Colette can travel with me.
- What is the maximum accepted size of the carrier or transport bag and where to place it on the plane?
As a common requirement for all airlines that I have analyzed, the travel carrier should not be rigid, it must have ventilation holes so that our dog can breathe and a waterproof bottom. Our pet must be able to be upright and lying comfortably in the carrier or transport bag.
On the place, the carrier must be placed on the floor, between our feet or under our seat. It is forbidden to place it on the seat next to us, even if it is free, or on our legs. We can’t take the dog out of the carrier in any case from the boarding to the disembarking the plane and its care will be under our responsibility.
The transport bag that I use for Colette in our travels and that you have probably seen in our Instagram photos, is the model Glam Bag 2 of Wooflink, a very handy bag because I can put inside it not only the things that Colette needs, but also my things, like the mobile phone, the wallet, the keys, etc. It has an eye bolt and a comfortable cushion inside. It opens from the top and the side with a zipper for the dog to breathe. It is a perfect travel bag, but in my opinion, a little bit heavy.
