Today we inaugurate the new section ‘Once upon a Pom’, a little corner in PomPomDog where we will talk about the dog books we read, sharing with you, (no spoilers of course ! ?) what we like the most, and what we like the least.
We start with ‘On talking terms with dogs: calming signals‘; a book that we were very interested in reading, written by the famous Norwegian dog trainer Turid Rugaas, which runs for its 15th edition.
Turid Rugaas has focused on developing natural training methods to know about the way dogs communicate to better understand them and, if necessary, help them. This is how she has managed to identify what she has called ‘calming signals’ to explain the communication of dogs.
Thanks to this book you will able to identify in a basic way:
The ‘calming signals’ that your dog uses to resolve conflicts and calm down, such as turning the head, licking the snout, immobilizing, yawning, walking slowly, moving the tail, etc.
The ‘stressing signals’ and what we can do to alleviate him/her.
