CHONDOPROTECTIVE OR SUPPLEMENTS FOR JOINTS

In today’s post we take the opportunity to share with you one of the last purchases for Colette: supplement tablets for joints.

As you know, Pomeranian dogs have, because of their small size, genetic predisposition to suffer from patella luxation, which makes them limp. There are different degrees of luxation ranging from grade 1 to grade 4, being grade 4 the most severe. Dogs with grades 2, 3 and 4 of patella luxation need to surgery. However, for grade 1 of luxation and, above all, to strengthen their joints, ligaments, tendons and cartilages, and to avoid, as far as possible, degenerative diseases in the joints in the future, such as arthrosis, this supplements for joints, or also called chondoprotectives are very beneficial.

In addition to dogs with joint problems or genetic predisposition to arthrosis, this kind of joints supplement is also recommended for:

Female dogs in the third and last term of pregnancy to favor the healthy formation in the fetus joints.
Dogs with a high physical wear, like dogs taking part in competitions, races or hunt.
Old dogs.
Overweight dogs.

Joint supplements help to prevent from joint damages, either avoiding collagen damage, either helping the body to build it. It is true that there is food from which you can get chondoprotectives, because of its high collagen content like, among others, pork or beef ears, pork or chicken legs or pork nose.however, we prefer to give these tablets to Colette, because the absorption by the body is total.

Which are the ingredients? There are many brands of joint supplements for our dogs in the market. We chose this one because it is a 100 % natural supplement. Its main ingredient, present in 40 %, is the New-Zealand mussel meat, raised and collected by hand. Last years, the mussel has taken the place of the shark cartilage, as it contains a higher concentration of actives substances (glycogen, glucosamine, omega 3…). On the other hand, it is preferable the consumption of mussels to not support the massive hunting of sharks, to which their cartilaginous skeleton is extracted alive 🙁

In addition to mussel meat, this supplement contains grape seed and acerola extract, field horsetail, nettle, dandelion, vitamin C, … all natural substances that promote the formation of synovial, the “oil joint”, helping the regeneration of the motor and joints mobility.

You can find this joint supplement in powder, granules or in tablets. We give it to Colette in tablets (a dose of ¼ tablet per day), as if it was a treat, as a complement to her regular diet. Don’t forget to check your veterinarian about this and other supplements and the recommended dose specifically for your dog.

A partir de que edad se les da y se puede conseguir en México.

  Se les puede dar a partir de cualquier edad, es más, los condroprotectores están especialmente recomendados para los cachorros durante el período de crecimiento, y más en razas como los Pomeranias, que tienen predisposición a sufrir problemas en las articulaciones. Pero tal y como decimos en el post, consulta con tu veterinario sobre éste u otros suplementos y la dosis recomendada en concreto para tu perrito.
  
  Por otro lado, he consultado con la marca de los condroprotectores que le doy a Colette y me han comunicado que lamentablemente el producto es demasiado perecedero como para hacerlo llegar a México. De momento, sólo lo venden en Europa. Pero seguro que investigando encuentras un producto muy similar de buena calidad en México. Si lo encuentras, no dudes en contárnoslo aquí y así podremos ayudar a otros lectores en México.
